Asda has announced an agreement to expand its sales of “Scotty” brand products, including fresh fruit with their own label, to include an annual supply of 3 million cherries. This expansion is set to be rolled out in Asda stores across the UK, according to reefertrends.
Hally Marshall began cultivating raspberries in his garden in Alyth in the 1930s. Since then, the farm has expanded to cover 1,300 hectares around the town. Handpicked baskets from these farms are available in around 160 Asda stores throughout the UK during the summer.
“Cherries thrive particularly well in Scotland due to the high number of daylight hours and cooler climate,” says Jennifer Marshall. “Scottish cherries ripen slowly on the trees, which increases their sugar content and quality. We use the best cultivation techniques and a variety of species to ensure our operation can supply Asda with cherries well into the season.”
Ashley Connolly, Head of Local Buying in Scotland at Asda, stated, “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with the Marshall family producers through our reliable supplier Scotty Brand. For over five years, we have collaborated with Scotty Brand on branded products, and we are excited to now extend this relationship to include own-label fresh fruit.”
